Prathama in last 17 years of its service to society has served more than 4 lac patients by making them available almost 16 lacs blood components when they needed. All this has become possible with the support of regular Voluntary blood donors. At present 50% of Voluntary blood donation at Prathama is done by its repeat donors, which is highest in the country. Prathama is continuously working towards its objective to provide “Safest Blood” to patients in shortest possible time. This year Prathama started its Nucleic Amplified Testing (NAT) facility on Thalassemia day (8th May, 2016). Now blood components issued to needy patients are 100% NAT tested. This ensures the safest blood.
Prathama is fulfilling 50% blood requirement of Ahmedabad city and nearby areas. More than 500 Thalassemia patients are registered at Prathama, who receives FREE blood components, as and when required. Apart from these cancer patients admitted to Gujarat Cancer Research Institute (GCRI) gets free platelets from Prathama. Free blood components are also issued to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation run hospitals like L.G. General Hospital, V.S. General Hospital & Shardaben Hospital. All blood components issued from Prathama are form voluntary Blood Donors and is made available to patients on “No Replacement” basis.
All this has become possible with the support of Voluntary Blood Donors and Blood Drive organizers. Today, on 7th July,2018, “Golden Jubilee Blood Donor Felicitation Program” was organized at Prathama Blood Centre. Donors who have completed their 50th Voluntary Blood Donation were felicitated. In this program, Mr. Tulsi Bagwale- Zonal Head of Bank of Baroda was invited as Chief Guest. The function was also graced by Dr. Rima Kusumgar- Blood Bank In charge & Ass. Professor, Gujarat Cancer Research Institute. Golden jubilee donors attended this function along with their family members.
Mr. Tulsi Bagwale- Zonal Head of Bank of Baroda shared that their bank is associated with Prathama from last 17 years and have contributed almost 5000 units during this period. Dr. Rima also added that Voluntary blood donation is a noble act and there is always crisis of blood. He also mentioned that Prathama is helping many cancer patients admitted in GCRI by providing free Platelets.
