Journey of Blood (At Prathama)

Once Blood is donated by donor, different components from that blood is separated which can be used by patients. The components like plasma, platelet & RBCs are separated by spinning the bag in designated refrigerated centrifuge.

Blood group confirmation of that Blood along with Transfusion Transmitted Infections (TTI) testing is carried out for 5 mandatory diseases (HIV, HbsAg, HCV, Malaria, Syphilis) as per the Guidelines. The testing is carried out with the help of fully automated Testing equipment.

After non-reactive reporting, blood grouping & component separation, each component is stored at its proper temperature as per the guidelines. Now component is safe to transfuse for the patient who need it.

Whenever any patient needs blood component, clinician/relative/patient can contact Prathama Blood Centre. They will have to provide properly labelled samples along with Doctor's prescription mentioning type of component needed for transfusion.

After proper matching of patient's sample with donor unit, blood is kept reserved for the patient. Cross matching is required for RBC unit which takes approx. 90 minutes. Dept of Health, Govt of India has defined maximum allowable processing charge for each component. After paying Govt. approved Processing charges, blood component is being issued as & when patient needs to transfuse it.
